Know What You're Buying Before You Buy It

Used jet ski listings always say the same thing: "runs great," "well maintained," "no issues." Most of the time that's honest. Sometimes it isn't. And even honest sellers don't always know what's lurking under the hood — a compression issue developing, a wear ring that's halfway gone, an engine hour count that doesn't match the condition. A pre-purchase inspection from AOG Performance gives you the full picture before money changes hands.

We run the same diagnostic process we use for every ski that comes into the shop — electronic scan, compression test, cooling system check, pump inspection, hull walk-around, and a startup and run observation. At the end, you get a written report with everything we found. No surprises after the sale.

Who This Is For

Anyone buying a used jet ski in the New York area. Whether it's a private sale off Facebook Marketplace, a dealer lot unit, or a ski you're picking up from storage — if it's used and you're spending real money on it, an inspection is worth doing. A $400 engine problem we catch becomes your problem the moment you hand over cash without knowing about it.

We also do inspections for people selling their ski who want to give buyers confidence. A clean inspection report from a reputable shop goes a long way.

What We Check

Engine compression — Low or uneven compression is one of the clearest signs that an engine is worn or damaged. We test every cylinder and compare readings. Numbers that don't match tell a story.

Electronic diagnostic scan — We plug into the ECU and pull any stored or active fault codes. Sea-Doo, Yamaha, and Kawasaki all log codes that indicate past or current problems. A clean code history is a good sign. Hidden codes are a red flag.

Cooling system — We check for proper water flow through the cooling circuit, look for signs of overheating history (discoloration, damaged impeller housing, residue in the exhaust outlet), and inspect the pump strainer.

Jet pump and impeller — We pull the pump inspection cover and look at the impeller blades and wear ring. A chipped impeller or worn ring significantly reduces performance and costs money to fix. Easy to miss without looking at it properly.

Hull and body — We walk the entire hull looking for stress cracks, impact damage, delamination, and evidence of water intrusion into the core. Cosmetic issues are one thing; structural damage is another.

Electrical and battery — We test the battery, check the charging system, and look for any wiring issues or aftermarket modifications that could cause problems down the road.

Hours and run test — We verify the hour meter reading, start the ski, and listen to how it runs. Idle quality, throttle response, and any unusual sounds or vibrations all tell us something.

Common
Questions.

How much does a pre-purchase inspection cost?

Call us at (347) 225-5113 for current pricing. The inspection fee is a fraction of what a hidden problem could cost you after the sale — and often gives you leverage to negotiate the asking price down.

Do I need to bring the seller with me?

No. The ski just needs to be here. You can arrange delivery with the seller, trailer it yourself, or ask the seller to drop it off. We run the inspection and give you the report — the seller doesn't need to be present.

What if the inspection finds problems?

That's the whole point. You'll know exactly what the issues are and what they cost to fix before you commit. Use that to negotiate, walk away, or go in knowing what you're dealing with. Either way, you're better off knowing.

Can you inspect any brand?

Yes — Sea-Doo, Yamaha, and Kawasaki. We have the brand-specific scanning tools and know the failure patterns on each platform. We know exactly what to look for and where problems hide on each model.
